STATE LARGE GROUP FESTIVAL RESULTS;

 The Newfound Regional High School Band and Chorus recently participated in the New Hampshire Music Educators Association Large Group Evaluation Festival at Bow HS.  This is an annual festival sponsored by NHMEA that provides adjudication experiences for Bands, Choirs, and Orchestras from across the state.

The Festival represents the state standard by which music groups are evaluated against.  The groups must prepare three selections to be performed before a panel of judges, followed by a sight-reading performance of music that the groups have never seen before.

 The Concert Band performance featured “Valdres” by Hanssen, “Scottish Portrait” by Swearingen, and “Fiero” by Hodges.  The NRHS Chorus performed “Dies Irae” by Mozart, “Evening Star” by Johnson, and Purcell’s “Come Ye Sons of Art”.  Both the Band and the Chorus received ratings from the judges of “Proficient”.  The NRHS Band received a rating of "Exemplary" in Sight Reading.

 The students will now focus on end of the year music performances.  The Music Department Spring Concert will be held on May 10 in the NRHS auditorium, while the band will perform in the Bristol Memorial Day Parade.

STATE SOLO & ENSEMBLE RESULTS

Several musicians from Newfound Regional High School were recently awarded Superior and Excellent ratings at the New Hampshire State Solo and Ensemble Festival.  The annual festival, sponsored by the New Hampshire Music Educators Association, and held this year at the University of New Hampshire, provides for adjudication settings for soloists and small groups.  The NRHS students who received “A” ratings were;  Deanna Martin, who performed “Last Rose of Summer”;  Mackenzie Jollie, who sang “Where ‘er You Walk” by Handel;  Mason Martin, who performed “Dulcinea” from “Man of La Mancha”;   and Madison Martin, who performed “Something Wonderful” from “The King and I”.

Rachel Manita”, who sang“Someone Like You” from “Jekyll and Hyde” received a “B” rating, while Autumn Braley earned an “A” rating on flute for her performance of the Menuet from L’Arlesienne Suite by Bizet.

 All of the students performed before a Master Teacher, who evaluated and rated the performances.
